HV Jenkins Head Coach Bakari Bryant on The Karl DeMasi Sports Report

Yesterday another HV Jenkins Warrior was part of the Karl DeMasi Sports Report in the new ESPN Savannah 104.3 & AM 1400 studio in the Savannah Mall. The Head Coach of the GHSA Class AAA boys basketball team Bakari Bryant.

Bakari is a young man who has guided a group of young men to the ultimate team goal in high school hoops, a state championship. The unique point is Bakari is a product of Savannah; he won a state championship as a Savannah High Bluejacket, and now as a head coach. Look for the podcast soon. Congratulations Bakari on a great season!

Eric Johnson - HV Jenkins High School  Basketball

HV Jenkins won it first Georgia High School Association Class AAA Boys basketball championship and senior basketball player Eric Jonson was a big part.

Eric Johnson provided the winning shot with just 3.6 seconds left when he drove to the basket, faked a pass to the corner and finished with the winning shot which was a left-handed layup. This gave the Warriors the 62-60 victory. Johnson was the Warriors leading scorer. Eric  finished with a game-high 17 points and dished out six assists.

On the season, Johnson was the point guard of an HV Jenkins state championship team. Eric averaged 9.6 points a game; 5 assist a game, and 2.7 steals for the Warriors. It was a season basketball players dream of and big congratulations goes out to Eric and the HV Jenkins Warriors boys basketball team.

Former Shark Rainey Whitworth Chomping on the College Lacrosse Field

On Thursday against Columbia College out of South Carolina, Rainey Whitworth set a career high with five goals in a losing cause for the Knights. This year Whitworth is taking a bite out of the Capital Athletic Conference women’s lacrosse conference. Whitworth is the second-leading scorer with 21 goals this season.  

Rainey graduated in 2012 from Islands High School and enrolled at the Savannah College of Art and Design, SCAD. She was on the SCAD women’s lacrosse team her freshman year and then transferred to Southern Virginia University. Whitworth is a junior now and never played an official high school lacrosse game at Islands High School. Whitworth excelled for the Sharks on the volleyball court, soccer field, in the swimming pool and on the cross-country course. Rainey was very active in club lacrosse while in high school.
