Last week’s Wetherington Chiropractic Clinic Athlete of the Week Carson Lane of Memorial Day School - 08.15.2015

Last week’s Wetherington Chiropractic Clinic Athlete of the Week is rising 7th grader Carson Lane of Memorial Day School

Carson Lane & Karl DeMasi
On August 7th, ESPN.GO.COM posted a Facebook video of a 7th grader, Carson Lane of Memorial Day School. The video shows Carson’s throwing form that he uses to play baseball. The reason this video is special is Carson only has use of one arm, which was the result of a birth injury that left his left arm paralyzed.

The birth injury called Brachial Plexus injury is a loss of movement or weakness of the arm. It occurs when the collections of nerves in the shoulder (called the Brachial Plexus) are damaged during birth. Carson had numerous surgeries that brought back 40-50 percent movement, but the 11-year-old still has to use his own technique to play on a high level travel baseball.

Carson is not shy; he plays baseball, basketball and football. He played baseball for the Bone Crushers Traveling Baseball team before taking off last year to watch his older brother’s senior baseball season at Memorial Day School. What’s also amazing Carson had been playing sports all his life and ironically baseball since he was 4 years old. His father Ken said, “Carson is your typical boy, and nothing is going to stop him from playing any sport. Carson knows that he needs to practice improving like any other teenage athlete.”

Carson said, “The reason why the video was made was in hope of getting one of the young stars of Major League Baseball, Los Angeles Angels outfielder Mike Trout to notice so I could possibly meet him.” However, the video has taken off, and that’s how ESPN.GO.COM got hold of it and posted it. The video is getting so much attention and shows that anybody can play any sport if you work hard at as Carson has. Another great sports story, but most of all it’s about an amazing kid, Carson Lane.
