Savannah Quarterback Club Tosses Two More Awards

The Savannah Quarterback Club was at it again tossing out two more Athletes of the week for the high school football games played on October 6th. Two more deserving student/athletes clutched the award and ran with it.

First was A.E.

Beach stand out all-purpose player senior Kwan Williams, who grabbed the offensive player of the week for his performance in the Bulldogs 35-0 win over Groves. Williams had five catches for 89 yards and two touchdowns.

On the defensive side of the ball, New Hampstead Phoenix defensive end junior Mikell Jackson gathered his for his performance over Statesboro High School. Mikell recorded ten total tackles and two sacks. Both athletes got to speak and thank the Savannah Quarterback Club for their awards and got to listen to the guest speaker from ESPN, broadcaster Dari Nowkhah.

Savannah Quarterback Club Passes Out More Outstanding Player of the Week Awards

The Savannah Quarterback Club passed out its Offensive and Defensive players of the week for games played on September 29, 2017.

Catching the offensive player of the Week honors was Jenkins's senior wide receiver Tyrone Scott. Scott is one of the top college recruits in the Savannah area this year. In the game against Johnson High School, in which Jenkins won 35-6 win. Tyrone had three catches for 76 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Tackling the defensive player of the week was Savannah High's senior outside linebacker Treisean Palmer. Treisean was honored for Savannah High’s 21-15 win over Beach. He had eight solo tackles and one sack. Both players both got a chance to speak to the club about winning their respective awards and had the chance to listen to the guest speaker, former college and NFL player Chris Moher.

Mohr grew up in Thomson, Georgia, and played high school football at Briarwood Academy. Chris was recruited by the University of Alabama, where he was the team's starting punter for three years. Mohr went on played in the NFL with Tampa Bay (1989), Buffalo Bills (1991-2000), Atlanta Falcons (2001-2004, and the Washington Redskins (2005. The highlight of Mohr's career was with the Bills from 1991 to 2000, during which time he appeared in three Super Bowls with the team—Super Bowl XXVI, Super Bowl XXVII, and Super Bowl XXVIII.

Savannah Quarterback Club Hands Off Awards to Local Underclassmen for the Week of September 22, 2017

For their efforts on the gridiron for the week of September 22, sophomores James Shellman of Islands High School and Jonathon Joseph of Bethesda Academy
were honored at the Savannah Quarterback Meeting on Monday October 09, 2017. James was introduced by Islands High School Quarterbacks Coach, Alex Modicue. As Jonathon was
introduced by Bethesda Academy Dean of Students, Keith Kilgore. Both young men were awarded their trophies by Atlanta Falcons play-by-play announcer Wes Durham and gave a short acceptance speech. Wes Durham is a well-known in Georgia as a sportscaster that has called many games for Georgia Tech, Fox Sports, and the NFL.

In Island’s High School’s 37-14 win over Johnson. Shellman threw 5 touchdown passes.

Jonathan Joseph Bethesda Academy
Sophomore / Cornerback
In Bethesda’s 36-22 loss to Dorchester Academy, Johnathan had 2 solo Tackles
and 5 interceptions.

Savannah Quarterback & Former Head Coach Sam Wyche Hand off Two More Awards

It was another Monday night at the Savannah Quarterback going 71 years strong and taking care of the "Boys of Fall" in Savannah Georgia. The Players of the Week for the week of September 15th were Calvary Day School running back Jalen Leary and Savannah Christian Prep Linebacker Eric Davidson. Below you will find the scoop that got both players selected as the back and lineman of the week.

What an experience as both young men received their award, spoke to the club, and got to meet and take a picture with former Cincinnati Bengals Head Coach Sam Wyche. Coach Wyche had a remarkable career in the NFL and led the Bengals as the head coach to Super Bowl XXIII.  Furthermore, Wyche is a Georgia boy himself.
Sam graduated from North Fulton HS, after that went on to play college football at Furman, and subsequently as a quarterback and coach in the NFL.
