The Wetherington Chiropractic Clinic Athlete of the Week- Benedictine Military School Football Player senior Tru'self Cooper 10.31.15

This week’s Wetherington Chiropractic Clinic Athlete of the Week is Benedictine Military School football player senior Tru'self Cooper. Tru’self has had an unbelievable season so far on the gridiron. For his play in the Cadets football game on October 2 against Wayne County, Cooper had 16 tackles and that’s why Tru’self is the Wetherington Chiropractic Clinic Athlete of the Week.

From Cooper outside linebacker position he has more than 10 tackles in six out of the eight games this season. Tru’self on the season has 70 solo tackles 31 assists, for a total of 101 tackles on the season which is an average of 12.6 tackles per game. In his career he has 232 solo tackles and 87 assists for a total of 319 tackles. Tru’self averages 12 tackles per game in his 3 ½ year career at Benedictine.

Besides Cooper’s prowess on the field, he was a big part of the Cadets 2014 State Championship team, has received 1st Team Savannah Morning News All-Greater Savannah Defensive Team in 2014, All-Region 2-AA selection, and interest from the University of Central Florida and Georgia Southern. Cooper has been offered a scholarship from Georgia Southern, and Tru’self has verbally committed to take his talents to Statesboro to play for the Eagles.

Wetherington Chiropractic Clinic Athlete of the Week-Savannah Arts Academy Volleyball Player senior Peyton Vacala 10.24.15

This week’s Wetherington Chiropractic Clinic Athlete of the Week is Savannah Arts Academy Volleyball Player senior Peyton Vacala. Vacala led the team in kills with 209, digs with 210, and in aces with 78. Peyton was on of the leaders on the team. Vacala has been a three year starter. The Panthers finished with an undefeated region record of 18-0 and a season record of 28-9 and eventually losing in the GHSA 2nd round of the Class AAA state playoffs to the number one seeded team from Atlanta Blessed Trinity.


Vacala was recognized for her extraordinary season by being named the Region 1-AAA Volleyball Player of the Year by the region coaches. Peyton has also been named a 1st team all region selection and a Savannah Morning News 1st team All-Greater Volleyball player last year. In the classroom, she has maintained a 3.98 gpa, participates in the BETA Club, is a National Honor Society member, a National Spanish Honor Society member, an AP Scholar, and a Mock Trial Team member all four years in high school. How Peyton finds the time is remarkable and plans on playing volleyball in college and pursuing a career in becoming a pediatrician physician assistant.

Wetherington Chiropractic Clinic Athlete of the Week-Savannah Country Day 8th Grade Football Player Mike Robertson Jr. 10.17.15

Mike Robertson Jr. is an 8th grade running back from Savannah Country Day School, and he is turning heads in the college football world. Robertson is getting interest and looks from some top-notch Division I SEC football programs. They are the University of Georgia, Alabama, Florida, and Tennessee. Once again, he is only an eighth grader.

Well if you have football games like Mike did against Calvary Day School on October 8th you would turn some heads also. In a 47-12 win by the Hornets, Robertson scored five touchdowns, had three rushing touchdowns, caught a 10-yard touchdown pass, and rushed for over 300 yards. On defense Mike had, 8 tackles forced 2 fumbles which one he snatched away from the running back and returned it 50 yards for a touchdown and had a night to remember.


Robertson is highly ranked in the world of high school recruits for the class of 2020. Mike is ranked as the number-one football athlete and number three running back. Robertson represented Savannah, Georgia at the 2014 Eastbay Youth All-American Bowl on December 20 in Naples, Florida as a seventh grader. If you are wondering Mikes, cousin is senior Demetrius Roberston of Savannah Christian Prep. So the talent is in the genes.

The Wetherington Chiropractic Clinic Athlete of the Week- Memorial Day Football Player Irvin Riley 10.10.15

One of the outstanding running backs in the Savannah area is Memorial Day School senior Irvin Riley. Last year, the Blue Thunder football player rushed for 1,036 yards and scored 13 touchdowns helping Memorial Day School to their second straight Georgia Independent Schools Association (GISA) Class AA State title.

Riley did it again in a key GISA region match up against Robert Toombs Christian Academy on October 1st. Irvin rushed for 209 yards, scored 5 touchdowns, 4 on runs of 53, 3, 47,14 yards and a 53-yard touchdown pass. Memorial Day School would go on to beat the Crusaders 42-21.


Riley, as of this writing has rushed for 673 yards, has 201 yards receiving and 12  touchdowns this season thus far. The Blue Thunder has one regular-season game left and then the GISA State playoffs. Irvin is receiving recruiting interest from schools such as Army, Kennesaw State and Georgia State.

The Wetherington Chiropractic Clinic Athlete of the Week- Islands High School Softball Player Freshman Rebecca Davis 10.03.15
The week of October 10th Wetherington Chiropractic Clinic Athlete of the Week was freshman softball player Rebecca Davis of Islands High School. 

On September 17th Davis threw a combined seven-inning no-hitter in a doubleheader against the Atomsmashers of Johnson High School.

In the initial game of the twin bill, Rebecca threw three innings of scoreless no-hit softball. Islands won the first game 20-0. Then in the night cap another Shark win 12-0; Davis continued her mastery of not allowing a hit from an Atomsmasher in four innings. In the two games, Rebecca fanned 11 batters.


On the season, Davis only a freshman finished the season on the pitching mound with an ERA of 2.87, had 87 strikeouts and an 8-8 region record and in sub-region play a 7-3 record. Davis also has some offensive skills at the plate. Rebecca had a batting average of .476, knocked in 18 runs, with 2 doubles, 3 triples, and a homerun, and you can say the future looks bright for this Lady Shark softball player.

The Wetherington Chiropractic Clinic Athlete of the Week  - 09.28.2015 HV Jenkins Football Player Sophomore Javonte Middleton

HV Jenkins sophomore Quarterback JaVonte Middleton had a night to remember in a losing cause, 64-62 triple-overtime loss at Pierce County, on September 18, 2015.   JaVonte had the best game of his career completing 14 of 22 passes for 281 yards and seven touchdown passes. Middleton’s favorite Warrior target was sophomore wide receiver Jamonte Roberts, who had 164 yards receiving and three touchdowns out of the seven touchdowns Javonte threw. “He is a very good football player,” said Head Coach Tim Adams. “He is only a sophomore and has a lot of talent with room to grow.”

Middleton has been a starting quarterback for HV Jenkins the past two seasons. JaVonte this season has completed 46 out of 80 attempts for 792 yards with 10 touchdowns and only 4 interceptions. In his career, he has thrown for 1899 yards on 119 completions with 20 touchdown passes and remember he is only a sophomore. The future looks bright for this Warrior football player.
