Catching up on The Wetherington Chiropractic Clinic Athletes of the Week

Colton Lichtenberg senior- Savannah Country Day School football



Lichtenberg can score from anywhere, and he is most noted for his leg as kicker and field-goal kicker. Well, Colton proved that he can score also from his wide receiver position.

On Friday night, November 7th against Treutlen County High School in Soperton Georgia Colton accounted for 31 of Savannah Country Day’s 43 points in a 43-12 victory over the Vikings. Lichtenberg, as a kicker kicked five field goals of 20, 31, 34, 22 and 45 yards, kick 4 extra points and then as a wide receiver, caught touchdown passes of 52 and 20 yards.

On the season, Colton as a kicker made 13 out of 16 field goals, 26 out of 26 extra points, and as a wide receiver, he caught nine touchdown passes. Head Football Coach Dennis Coyle stated,"Colton is a team player and wanted to help the team in any way he could and by playing wide receiver, he proved that he is a team player."

Colton is getting looks to play at the next level, college, and we will see him playing somewhere. Congratulation Colton

Robert Heyward senior- Calvary Day School football


Heyward ran for a career-high 320 yards, scored five touchdowns all on 23 carries as Calvary Day beat Claxton 49-21 on October 24, 2014.

Robert said, "I didn't even realize that I had run for that many yards." It was one of many special football moments for Heyward. "He has been a stellar student athlete at Calvary Day School," stated Calvary Athletic Director Chad Griffin.

On the season and the Cavaliers are still playing Heyward has rushed for 989 yards on 121 carries, averaging 8.2 yards a carry, and has scored 17 touchdowns in only nine games. Robert missed the first game of the season due to an injury. Oh, by the way, Heyward is also the leading tackler for the Cavaliers from his middle linebacker defensive position. Congratulation Rober

The Wetherington Chiropractic Clinic Athlete of the Week 10.25.14
Trevon Pray sophomore - Bethesda Academy football


Pray rushed for 216 yards on 14 carries had three touchdowns on runs of 55 and 10 yards and returned a kickoff for an 80-yard touchdown all in the 1st quarter as Bethesda beat Palmetto Christian 56-7 on October 17, 2014.

On the season Trevon finished rushing for 1,170 yards on 115 carries for an average of 10.2 yards a carry, and scored 16 touchdowns during the regular season, and he is only a sophomore.

Jessica Ginn junior - Calvary Day School Fast-pitch softball


Jessica had a phenomenal game against Savannah Christian on September 16th. Ginn threw her second no-hitter against arch rival Savannah Christian winning 6-0. Ginn struck out 11 and walked just one batter in the game.

Overall Jessica was one of the best prep fast-pitchers and players in the area. Ginn finished throwing three no-hitters, struck out 122 batters in 160 innings pitched, an earned run average of 1.22, and she had 18 victories. As a hitter, she batted .326 and led the team in runs batted in and Jessica returns next year.

The Cavaliers finished the season 23-12 and made it the GHSA Elite eight in the state fast-pitch softball playoffs. Congratulations Jessica

Savannah, Ga.- For the second time this season, Sand Gnats pitcher Dario Alvarez has been named the South Atlantic League Pitcher of the Week. Over his last two starts, the lefty has refused to allow an earned run, going 2-0 with 16 strikeouts and just two walks.
On Monday, June 30, Alvarez held the Rome Braves to just two hits and one walk over five innings, generating eight swings-and-misses.
He followed that up with another stellar start on Saturday, July 5, against the Hickory Crawdads. The 25-year-old hurled 5 1/3 innings allowing just three hits and one unearned run, while striking out another eight batters.
The Santiago, Dominican Republic, native has scorched the league, notching a perfect 6-0 record with a team-leading 86 strikeouts. Alvarez has also pitched out of the Sand Gnats bullpen to great effect, affording manager Luis Rojas more wiggle room within his 25-man roster.
Back on May, 14, Alvarez tied a career high, racking up 12 strikeouts in five innings of scoreless ball against the Greenville Drive.
Alvarez pitched with the Phillies Organization in the Dominican Summer League during 2007-2009. He spent 2010 and 2011 pitching in Panama and then Venezuela for unaffiliated teams until he was signed by the New York Mets as a non-drafted free agent in 2012.

Robert Powers - junior at Savannah Arts Academy/Eastern Surfing Association 2014 All-star

The Skinny: Robert was selected as an Eastern Surfing Association All-Star for 2014, and recently last month competed in the National Surfing competition in California.

During the Surf Season: Robert won the Junior Men’s Longboard Division on May 3rd  at the Surfing Pro-Am at Wrightsville Beach, N.C. He has major sponsors for his success on his surfboard, and they are BANXBLOCK Sunscreen, Hyper-flex Wet-suits, and Anarchy Sunglasses.

On Deck: Robert returns  to Wrightsville, NC next week for O’Neill/Sweetwater Pro-Am Surf Fest  Competition, then travels to Malibu California with the Virginia Longboard Federation Team next month for a team competition, and then in September to the  Outer-banks of North Carolina for the Eastern Surf Association Championships.

College Outlook: Robert would love to surf in college.

Interest off the Diamond: Robert is involved in martial arts, works at the North Beach Grill on Tybee Island, surf instructor/counselor, volunteers for Surfers for Autism and enjoys hanging out with friends.

Chipper Wiley - sophomore Benedictine Military School Baseball player

The Skinny: Chipper was selected as the Savannah Morning News Best of Preps Baseball Player of the Year, and he is only a sophomore. Chipper has been  an All-Region 2-AA first-team selection the last two seasons and is a two-time All-Savannah Morning News first-team pick.

During the Season: Chipper played for the GHSA Class AA state championship baseball team as a pitcher and first baseman. Chipper anchored the BC state championship baseball team pitching staff with a  with a record of 9-2 record, an ERA of 1.44,  and had 80 strikeouts in 72 2/3 innings. Chipper at the plate batted.361 with an on-base percentage of .468, a slugging percentage of .590 with eight doubles, one triple, and three home runs (2 in the state playoffs) and 28 RBIs.

On Deck: Chipper is playing summer travel ball with Chain Baseball Academy of  Warner Robbins and is on the 16-under  team to  improve his baseball skills.  

College Outlook: Chipper would love to play college baseball for the Tigers of LSU.

Interest off the Diamond: Chipper is a student athlete who carries a "B" average and his favorite subject is math. Chipper is a sergeant in the ROTC program at Benedictine.

Taylor DeLoach - sophomore St. Vincent's Academy Track & Field Athlete

The Skinny: Taylor captured three gold medals at this year GHSA Class AA state track meet. She won the 100- and 200-meter sprints and the long jump making her the first St. Vincent’s athlete to win a track event at the state. Taylor has earned the Savannah Morning News’ Girls Track Athlete of the Year award for the second year in the row.  

During the season: Taylor turned heads in the  long jump with a leap of 20 feet, 1 inch, which was the longest jump for a female high school track athlete in Georgia and fifth longest in the USA. Taylor also set personal bests in the 100-meter dash with a 12.16 at region and in the 200-meter dash with a 24.68 at the state...

On Deck: Taylor,  just a sophomore, still has tow more high school track seasons to improve, but she won't be waiting for that to happen, she participates in AAU track. Last summer, she placed first in the long jump with a 19-3 at the AAU Nationals in Orlando, Fla.

College Outlook: Taylor said she has already drawn interest from Kansas, Notre Dame, Navy, North Carolina State, Middle Tennessee State and Virginia.

Other interests off the Track: Taylor also plays forward on the St. Vincent’s basketball team to keep her in shape during the winter season  and is a true student athlete as  she maintains  a 3.8 grade-point average at school.

Former Shark Richardson still Surfing the Seas

Over the Memorial Day weekend, former Islands High School student, Josh Richardson, competed in the Steel Pier Surfing Classic at Virginia Beach, VA.  Josh surfed in the Pro Longboard event against the top professional longboard surfers from both the east and west coast including national and international champions.  Over the 3-day event, Josh finished 5th in the pro competition. 
Richardson is a former "Karl DeMasi Sports Report Athlete of the Week," and he just finished his freshman year at Flagler College in St. Augustine, FL.  At Flagler, Richardson is a member of the college's surfing team, recently captured the East Coast College Longboard Championship, and will be surfing for Flagler and the National College Championship in California next month.
Josh will be helping to teach at the Surf Camps on Tybee Island this summer, sponsored by the Tybee Island YMCA.

This past week's Wetherington Chiropractic Clinic Athletes of the Week - Austin Leggett

This past week’s Wetherington Chiropractic Clinic Athlete of the Week for May 24, 2014 was Islands high-school senior baseball player Austin Leggett. Austin was voted the Region 3 AAA Baseball Player of the Year. Austin was also a member of the Savannah Morning News All-City Baseball 1st team. 
His statistics speak for them self. As a catcher Austin threw out 16 of 21 runners who tried to steal off him. As a hitter, he batted .370 with nine doubles, two homers and 25 RBIs. Then he was asked to pitch, and he went 3-3 on the mound with a 2.85 ERA. As a result, he signed a letter of intent to play at Savannah State. Congratulations Austin.

This past week's Wetherington Chiropractic Clinic Athletes of the Week - Savannah Christian's Ewaldsen & BC's Stewart


This past week’s Wetherington Chiropractic Clinic Athletes of the week for May 17, 2014 were the Savannah Christian Preparatory school standout athlete senior Chandler Ewaldsen and Benedictine Military School  multi-sport athlete junior Brad Stewart. Each has respectively just won the biggest awards given out to local prep athletes in Savannah Georgia, the Hollis Stacy Award and the Ashley Dearing Award.

Savannah Christian’s senior Chandler Ewaldsen becomes the third athlete to win the Hollis Stacy Award back to back and the first since Savannah Country Day’s Lizzie Sprague in 2003 and 2004. The award is given to the most versatile female student-athlete in Chatham County. The athlete must have participated in three varsity sports during the school year.
Chandler is a three-sport standout at Savannah Christian. She has received All-Region honors in volleyball, basketball and soccer for the Red Raiders. Besides being a Hollis Stacy Award recipient, she also has been named the Savannah Morning News Volleyball player of the year in 2012 and the Savannah Morning News the Most Versatile Athlete in 2013. Chandler just signed a letter of intent to play college volleyball at Georgia College and State University.
Benedictine Military School’s junior Brad Stewart is the 61st Ashley Dearing Award winner. The Dearing Award is given out to the most versatile male student-athlete in Chatham County annually. Brad is a standout athlete in football, basketball, and baseball for the Cadets. He is only the sixth junior to win the award.

Besides winning the Dearing Award Brad has been recognized as an All-Region selection in all three sports and is a two-time All-State selection in football, one honorable mention and one-second team.  Brad has been named to all the Savannah Morning News All-City teams. Brad has been chosen a first-team selection in football two times, a first-team selection in baseball last year and a second-team pick in basketball this year. As of right now Brad has been offered football scholarships to the U.S. Military Academy and Marshall University. These two outstanding student-athletes deserve a big congratulation by all.

Wildcat Jones the Wetherington Chiropractic Clinic Athlete of the Week for 5.04.14

The Wetherington Chiropractic Clinic Athlete of the Week for May 4, 2014 is senior Track & Field athlete from Richmond Hill High School Corey Jones. Corey finished first in the GHSA Track and Field sectionals in the 1600 meter race with a time of 4:22.74. Jones has not lost a 1600 meter race this year. He also finished second in the 800-meter race at the sectionals with a time of 1:57.33. Corey has qualified to run at the GHSA State Track & Field meet in the 1600 meter run  and 800-meter run this weekend in Jefferson Georgia. Furthermore, on April 29th, Corey signed an athletic scholarship to continue his track and field career at Savannah State University.

Brad Stewart - The 61st Ashley Dearing Award

The 61st annual Ashley Dearing Award goes to Benedictine junior Brad Stewart.
One of most prestigious if not the one trophy that most Savannah multi-sport prep athletes dream about is the Ashley Dearing Award. All nominations must have played football, basketball and a spring sport during the school year. This year Brad marks the 61st recipient to a long list of outstanding three sport athletes from Savannah Georgia. Below is a list of all of the prevoius winners.
Stewart is a three-sport athlete, in football, baseball and basketball at Benedictine since his freshman. He has received numerous awards over the past two years in each sport he has played. Stewart has football scholarship offers from Marshall and Army.

Wetherington Chiropractic
