This past week’s Wetherington Chiropractic Clinic Athletes of the week for May 17, 2014 were the Savannah Christian Preparatory
school standout athlete senior Chandler Ewaldsen and Benedictine Military School
multi-sport athlete junior Brad Stewart.
Each has respectively just won the biggest awards given out to local prep
athletes in Savannah Georgia, the Hollis Stacy Award and the Ashley Dearing
Award.
Savannah Christian’s senior Chandler
Ewaldsen becomes the third athlete to win the Hollis Stacy Award back to back
and the first since Savannah Country Day’s Lizzie Sprague in 2003 and 2004. The award is given to
the most versatile female student-athlete in Chatham
County. The athlete must have participated in three varsity sports
during the school year.
Chandler
is a three-sport standout at Savannah Christian. She has received All-Region
honors in volleyball, basketball and soccer for the Red Raiders. Besides being
a Hollis Stacy Award recipient, she also has been named the Savannah Morning
News Volleyball player of the year in 2012 and the Savannah Morning News the
Most Versatile Athlete in 2013. Chandler just signed a letter of intent to play
college volleyball at Georgia College and State University.
Benedictine Military School’s junior
Brad Stewart is the 61st Ashley Dearing Award winner. The Dearing Award is given out to the most versatile
male student-athlete in Chatham County annually. Brad is a standout
athlete in football, basketball, and baseball for the Cadets. He is only the
sixth junior to win the award.
Besides
winning the Dearing Award Brad has been recognized as an All-Region selection
in all three sports and is a two-time All-State selection in football, one
honorable mention and one-second team. Brad has been named to all the Savannah
Morning News All-City teams. Brad has been chosen a first-team selection in
football two times, a first-team selection in baseball last year and a
second-team pick in basketball this year. As of right now Brad has been
offered football scholarships to the U.S. Military Academy and Marshall
University. These two outstanding student-athletes deserve a big congratulation
by all.
