Former Shark Richardson still Surfing the Seas

Over the Memorial Day weekend, former Islands High School student, Josh Richardson, competed in the Steel Pier Surfing Classic at Virginia Beach, VA.  Josh surfed in the Pro Longboard event against the top professional longboard surfers from both the east and west coast including national and international champions.  Over the 3-day event, Josh finished 5th in the pro competition. 
Richardson is a former "Karl DeMasi Sports Report Athlete of the Week," and he just finished his freshman year at Flagler College in St. Augustine, FL.  At Flagler, Richardson is a member of the college's surfing team, recently captured the East Coast College Longboard Championship, and will be surfing for Flagler and the National College Championship in California next month.
Josh will be helping to teach at the Surf Camps on Tybee Island this summer, sponsored by the Tybee Island YMCA.

This past week's Wetherington Chiropractic Clinic Athletes of the Week - Austin Leggett

This past week’s Wetherington Chiropractic Clinic Athlete of the Week for May 24, 2014 was Islands high-school senior baseball player Austin Leggett. Austin was voted the Region 3 AAA Baseball Player of the Year. Austin was also a member of the Savannah Morning News All-City Baseball 1st team. 
His statistics speak for them self. As a catcher Austin threw out 16 of 21 runners who tried to steal off him. As a hitter, he batted .370 with nine doubles, two homers and 25 RBIs. Then he was asked to pitch, and he went 3-3 on the mound with a 2.85 ERA. As a result, he signed a letter of intent to play at Savannah State. Congratulations Austin.

This past week's Wetherington Chiropractic Clinic Athletes of the Week - Savannah Christian's Ewaldsen & BC's Stewart


This past week’s Wetherington Chiropractic Clinic Athletes of the week for May 17, 2014 were the Savannah Christian Preparatory school standout athlete senior Chandler Ewaldsen and Benedictine Military School  multi-sport athlete junior Brad Stewart. Each has respectively just won the biggest awards given out to local prep athletes in Savannah Georgia, the Hollis Stacy Award and the Ashley Dearing Award.

Savannah Christian’s senior Chandler Ewaldsen becomes the third athlete to win the Hollis Stacy Award back to back and the first since Savannah Country Day’s Lizzie Sprague in 2003 and 2004. The award is given to the most versatile female student-athlete in Chatham County. The athlete must have participated in three varsity sports during the school year.
Chandler is a three-sport standout at Savannah Christian. She has received All-Region honors in volleyball, basketball and soccer for the Red Raiders. Besides being a Hollis Stacy Award recipient, she also has been named the Savannah Morning News Volleyball player of the year in 2012 and the Savannah Morning News the Most Versatile Athlete in 2013. Chandler just signed a letter of intent to play college volleyball at Georgia College and State University.
Benedictine Military School’s junior Brad Stewart is the 61st Ashley Dearing Award winner. The Dearing Award is given out to the most versatile male student-athlete in Chatham County annually. Brad is a standout athlete in football, basketball, and baseball for the Cadets. He is only the sixth junior to win the award.

Besides winning the Dearing Award Brad has been recognized as an All-Region selection in all three sports and is a two-time All-State selection in football, one honorable mention and one-second team.  Brad has been named to all the Savannah Morning News All-City teams. Brad has been chosen a first-team selection in football two times, a first-team selection in baseball last year and a second-team pick in basketball this year. As of right now Brad has been offered football scholarships to the U.S. Military Academy and Marshall University. These two outstanding student-athletes deserve a big congratulation by all.

Wildcat Jones the Wetherington Chiropractic Clinic Athlete of the Week for 5.04.14

The Wetherington Chiropractic Clinic Athlete of the Week for May 4, 2014 is senior Track & Field athlete from Richmond Hill High School Corey Jones. Corey finished first in the GHSA Track and Field sectionals in the 1600 meter race with a time of 4:22.74. Jones has not lost a 1600 meter race this year. He also finished second in the 800-meter race at the sectionals with a time of 1:57.33. Corey has qualified to run at the GHSA State Track & Field meet in the 1600 meter run  and 800-meter run this weekend in Jefferson Georgia. Furthermore, on April 29th, Corey signed an athletic scholarship to continue his track and field career at Savannah State University.
