This week’s Wetherington Chiropractic Clinic Athlete of the Week is Indy Vassilev – 07.25.2015
Indy Vassilev a local soccer player was selected to play on the U.S.
National U-14 Soccer Team. What makes this interesting is that Windsor Forest
High School Head Soccer Coach Cam Turner stated Indy is the first player from
Savannah to ever make an appearance on a U.S. National team. Vassilev has
played soccer in Savannah throughout his young life. Indy has been part of
local soccer playing with the Savannah United program and the Savannah Storm
program.
Playing soccer with these two elite soccer programs got Indy seen by the IMG
Academy, where he will be a freshman this fall. Indy started at IMG as an
eighth grader last year which is in Bradenton Florida and specializes in
developing the student/athlete and is world known as one of the leading sports
academies. Then in April Indy was at the U.S. Soccer U14 Boys National team camp, and
Indy stood out as one of the top players and was selected. Vassilev had the experience
of playing soccer in Croatia with the U.S. National U-14 Soccer team during May
2015.
Indy whose given full name is Indiana is the son of Dencho Vassilev who came
to the U.S. to play soccer at the University of Mobile in Alabama. Vassilev was
a first-team All-American NAIA selections in 1993. Dencho also won the NAIA
tournament MVP honors that year when the University of Mobile reached the NAIA
Final Four. Vassilev wound up in Savannah in 1997 to play for the Savannah Rug
Ratz, which was a professional indoor team that lasted only two seasons from
1997-1998. Dencho then decided to stay in Savannah.

Marlins Swimmer Jessilyn Graham 7.18.2015
This week’s Wetherington Chiropractic Clinic Athlete of the Week is Mayfair Marlins Swimmer Jessilyn Graham. Jessilyn had an amazing day at the 49th Savannah Coastal Swim League City Meet. Graham scored 97 points for her swim team, The Mayfair Marlins Championship swim team. Jessilyn finished first in four individual events and second in one event. Graham's first place finishes were in the 50-Yard Freestyle, 50-Yard Backstroke, 50-Yard Breaststroke, and 100-Yard Individual Medley and her lone second-place finish was in the 50-Yard Butterfly. Graham added two more first place finishes in two team relays, 200-Yard Medley Relay and the 200-Yard Freestyle Relay.
Jessilyn is a rising junior at Windsor Forest High School. Graham also swims for the Georgia Coastal Aquatics team and the Savannah Chatham County Public School Swim team. Jessilyn qualified the last two years for the Georgia High School State Association state swim meet. Besides swimming she also runs cross country at Windsor Forest.

This week’s Wetherington Chiropractic Clinic Athlete of the Week is Savannah Junior Golf Associations/South Effingham senior Ben Brennan.
This week’s Wetherington Chiropractic Clinic Athlete of the Week is Savannah Junior Golf Associations/South Effingham senior BEN BRENNAN.
Ben
has won three Savannah Junior Golf Associations Tournaments (SJGA) that he has entered
this summer. On June 8th, Brennan shot a 73 to win at Wilmington Island
club. Then on June 16th he shot a 76 to win at the Southbridge
Country Club and recently on July 6th, he recorded a 73 to win at the Savannah
Harbor golf course. The two week’s Ben did not participate in SJGA events he
was attending qualifying events for the United States Junior Golf Association.
Ben will return to playing in the last two major tournaments of the SJGA summer
series playing at Crosswinds on July 13th and then the prestigious SJGA
Matt Warren Championship at the Savannah Golf
Club on July 27th and 28th.
Ben is a rising senior at South
Effingham High School and has made a name for him during the high school golf season
also. Brennan has made the Savannah Morning News All-Greater Golf first team
every year since his freshman year, 2013, 2014, and 2015. Ben this year advanced to the state Class AAAAA golf
sectionals after shooting a 76 in the Region 3-AAAAA tournament at Jekyll
Island. At the sectionals, he missed the state tournament by one stroke. Ben
also is a member of the South Effingham high School National Honor Society and
the key Club.
