Wet and Cloudy Baseball Season Playoff Picture

Austin Legett #15 Islands High School
With only six days  left in the 2014 Georgia High School Association (GHSA) high school baseball season, the playoff picture is wet and  cloudy just like this season's weather. According to GHSA, all region play must be finished by April 26th, and the top four region teams make the state baseball playoffs.  In our area, there are a lot of local teams in the running for making the GHSA state baseball playoffs.

In region 3-AAAAA, there are six teams still in contention for four spots. Richmond Hill as of right now is tied for first with Ware County. Effingham County is trailing by one game in the lose column and Bradwell, Glynn Academy, and Jenkins are all in contention for the fourth and final spot.

As far as  3-AAAA region goes, Cross Creek is in first place as of today but South Effingham,  Burke County, Statesboro and Wayne County can finish anywhere  from one to four. That makes five teams jocking for four spots. This week will tell who gets left out.

The 1-AAA region is pretty much a lock for the playoff spots one to three. Tattnaell County, Brantley County, and Islands High School are all vying for the fourth spot. All three play each other this week so who will be the two odd teams out.

Benedictine has already clinched the 2-AA region title. They will be preparing for the first round of the playoffs on May 2nd and will be hosting a first round GHSA state baseball playoff series. The Cadets are getting hot when it matters, right at the end of the regular season.

In the 3-A region the region standings don't really matter. This is because the GHSA "A" classification is separated into a private and public state playoff system. So the power point system comes into play. Calvary Day School and Savannah Christian have the same region records, but Savannah Christian has more power points and seeded as of right now as the number eight team where as Calvary is slotted in the 14th spot. Hopefully, both schools will hold on.

This week will be important and hopefully the weather will cooperate. Let's play ball!
