On Tuesday night sophomore Sarah Stewart scored 5 goals, in St. Vincent’s Academy’s 5-4 non-region victory over perennial state girls’ soccer power from Class AAAAA Glynn Academy. Stewart has scored 40 goals and has 11 assists in 16 games so far this season. Sarah’s S Coach Tess Tvrdy said, “I know Sarah in the classroom and on the field. She is an honor's student who is focused and attentive and maintains a very high GPA. On the field, I see Sarah as a relaxed, strong athlete. She follows all directions, never argues and knows how to support her team. She is fierce when she has control of the ball, we affectionately call her a "freight train" because she will run right through you to get to the goal.” As of right now, the Saints have clinched their region title again with an undefeated region record of 8-0. Overall, the Saints are 12-3-1 and are ranked #4 in the state in Class “AA."
Sarah has had a tremendous year so far in her two other sports she participated in. Stewart was named the Area 2-AA’s Player of the Year in Volleyball, selected to the All-State Volleyball first team, and on the Savannah Morning News All-Greater Volleyball First team. In basketball, she was an All Region First team choice, and was second team on the Savannah Morning News All-Greater Area Basketball team. Last year as a freshman, Sarah was the runner-up for the Hollis Stacy Award given to the most versatile three sport female athlete in Savannah.
Her volleyball coach Dawn Odom had his to say, “Sarah is the most well rounded athlete I have ever coached. She excels in everything she does, but she is unbelievably humble. She has a 4.0 GPA.” What more can you say about this outstanding student/athlete and just think Sarah is only a sophomore.
