This week’s Wetherington Chiropractic Clinic Athlete is freshman Cross
Country Runner Mattie Harris of Calvary Day School
Back on August 29th, Mattie Harris finished second overall in the varsity cross country girls race at the Savannah Arts Academy/Fleet Feet Sports Saucony XC Kickoff Classic, which is the first cross-country race of the season for our local teams.
Mattie only a freshman at Calvary Day School recorded her personal best of 18:58.80 over the 5k course in Daffin Park. Harris was the first local prep runner to cross the finish line, and the closest Savannah runner came in with a time of almost a minute slower. Mattie is coached by her dad Steve Harris who teaches Math and also coaches the Calvary Day School wrestling team.
Mattie has also been recognized by Milesplit.com for her accomplishment at this meet. Harris was named the fastest freshman girl runner in Georgia. Milessplit.com also posted that Mattie has the 13th quickest 5K time for a freshman girl in the U.S. this season as of September 17th.. “My goal was to break 19 minutes this year,” said Mattie. “I want to run for a Division I program after high school.” You can bet right now Mattie will reach her dream because of her dedication and hard work to get better. Remember she is only a freshman.
