Finalists forThird Annual Spann Award and First Greg Oliver Award Announced
The finalists for the Third Rashaad Spann Memorial Award, recognizing the top
junior basketball player in Savannah, have been announced. The award is in
memory of Spann, the former Jenkins and Groves star, who was killed in February
of 2014. His uncle Anthony Dooley Bryan stated this is would be a good way to
keep Rashaad’s name alive and honor his memory for what he did as a
student/athlete in Savannah.
This year the award has expanded to a boy and a girl winner for the initial
time. Furthermore, the First Coach Greg Oliver Academic Award will be awarded
the highest grade-point average of the four finalist.
The nominees are for the boys are Myles Walker of Windsor Forest High
School, Justin Cave of Islands High School, Trevion Lamar of Jenkins High
School and Oronte Anderson of New Hampstead High School.
The nominees for the girls are Savannah Walker of Woodville Tompkins High
School, Alexis Pierce of Sol C. Johnson High School, Quiera Porter of Calvary
Day School and Danielle Johnson of Windsor Forest.
The awards will be given out May 14th,, 2016.
